How to Make a Changing Table Topper

When I was working on Nathan’s nursery I had to watch my budget so when it came time to looking for a change table topper I couldn’t believe what I found….

Like this option from Pottery Barn?

Changing table topper

It’s yours for $1300! I can’t believe it that someone would pay this… you can easily search for a dresser that costs less or even buy the KOPPANG dresser or Hemnes dresser at IKEA and change the knobs if you want to make it look a bit more custom. You could find one through a site like Kijiji or a garage sale and have it sprayed a colour that you love. Once you find the dresser you love, you can make your own changing pad topper!

I found this amazing tutorial on Meg Made Designs and showed Matt… he didn’t mitre the edges of the 3/4 MDF pieces because we were painting it. If you want to stain it, you would need to mitre the corners. Matt also added a bottom to the table to make it sturdier. He used the 3/4 MDF for the bottom as well (this was good for painting). To assemble, refer to the Meg’s blog and if you do add the bottom, you can either pin it before putting the sides together or at the end. Add some wood filler over the joints and the pinholes. After it’s dry just sand, prime and paint. I chose to paint our topper Herringbone from the Sarah Richardson paint collection.

Great tip. We got our crib set from a friend but had we not I’d probably do this.
